He knew bears
Steven released two cubs in this area when he first arrived. He had always hoped to reconnect with them. He knew they would remember him, and he was eager to play with them and see them again.
Jessica was relieved to know the truth. Now everything made sense. He had still caused Jessica so much stress and sadness… Would she forgive him?
Steven’s Story
Steven was aware that Jessica was walking with him, and so, to her benefit, he slowed down the pace.
They talked the entire way back about Steven’s relationship with these two bears and his childhood. He found them many years ago while hiking with his dad. The two bears had been abandoned by their mother in the woods.
