XT Craft Midget Submarines
You can see two Royal Naval XT class midget submarines that were built during WWII at low tide. You can see the corroded skeletons of these midget submarines along the east coast in Aberlady Bay. These were T-Training Boats produced by Vickers’ Armstrong Ltd. in the early 40s.
In September 1943, the submarines carried out a dangerous and difficult mission against Tirpitz. After the crews succeeded in their mission, the Royal Navy and Air Force sank the Tirpitz battleship the following year. Two of the submarines were taken into Aberlady Bay and moored. The RAF used it for training and testing.
