SFRY underwater tunnels
The abandoned tunnels along the Adriatic Sea, which were once known as Yugoslavia, are eerie. The tunnels, which are located in Croatia today, were used as a strategic position by people who fought for independence on the island Vis during World War II. These were the first modern tunnels constructed in the hills around Vis.
Since years, the island, and especially its network of underground tunnels has been shrouded by mystery. It was once the base of Yugoslavian army, when communist sentiments were still strong. The bunkers, which were buried deep in the mountains to provide vital military support, were abandoned after Yugoslavia collapsed in the 1990s. The site is still a popular tourist attraction, visited by thousands.
