A Big Hole Underneath
Gabby felt that they were moving closer to the finish. As one of the officers removed the last scoop of dirt, a large gap was found that reached all the way under the headstone. The dirt was removed from only one side of this stone. This made it possible for the stone fall through the earth with just one wrong move.
Reaching Inside
They knew they had to act quickly. One of the officers sat down and put his arm inside the hole. The officer moved his arm in an effort to feel what was underneath, but it was too deep to be able to feel anything. He didn’t feel anything until his entire arm and shoulder were in the hole. He only realized there was something there after he put his whole arm and shoulder into the hole.
