John’s respect for Charlotte
John wrote the reason in his letter for not telling Charlotte the truth. Charlotte was more respectable after reading the letter. She was happy that her husband showed such respect for her.
He didn’t know why, but it was simple. He did not want to change his life style and he was afraid that people would take advantage of him if they knew about his wealth. He didn’t just want people to respect him for his wealth. He wanted them to love him and respect who he was as a human being.
