8. The Noise
Jack’s screaming squawk sounded unnatural. He almost hit his wife as he walked back home. They both jumped in the air and laughed a bit. They stopped laughing as soon as they realized that the crying was still going on.
Bonnie whispered, “Did I hear you?” Jack nodded.
The two remained motionless in the kitchen, as they listened to the chaos outside. The sounds shattered the quiet pre-dawn.
9. Perhaps It’s Kids
Bonnie whispered, “Maybe they are kids.” You know what they do when they get bored during the summer. They are on the rampage.”
Yes, but so early? Making the noise? Jack said, “That’s strange.”
This was different. Kids were known to race on dirt roads or tip cows, but this seemed different. Jack knew Bonnie didn’t mean it when she said that the kids were involved.
