78. Birds are loved by many people
Many locals came from all over town to see the peacocks. Jack was known as a farmer who had a successful business. He kept up this reputation by raising peacocks.
These exotic pets were very popular with visitors. They looked foreign, but they are actually easy to care for. Peacocks were friendly and sociable.
Everything was going well until one evening, when everything went upside down again.
79. The Sound Again
Jack heard a loud wailing early one morning, about a week after he had given up the chicks. He was on his way to the barn. He muttered, “Oh no.” “Here we go again.”
He chose a new tactic this time. Bonnie woke right after him and said, “Oh, my god, it’s happening yet again?” Jack nodded, and stood.
He moved his head to the window and put his finger on his lips.
