Farmers are not by nature attached to their animals. Jack was kind to his animals and would pat them occasionally. However, he did not get overly attached.
He was, at least. He watched with anticipation to see if he could get the baby out of the shell and into its new home.
67. Sal
Bonnie’s voice was hushed in awe as she said “It is a peacock.” She had raised them on her parents farm, a few kilometers away. She had even become attached to one beautiful bird, whom she named Sal.
Bonnie was devastated when Sal died at the age of 15 years. Bonnie had never wanted to have another child, out of fear that she would suffer another loss.
Her eyes filled with tears when she saw these peacock babies being born.
