Jack, as he watched the hatching, said “It is …” a bird?”. The tiny, wrinkled creature before him was light-brown. Jack knew it was a bird but it wasn’t a chicken or rooster he had ever seen.
The tiny creature struggled to open its shell. Jack warned Mary, telling her to “let him do it by himself.”
Little mystery birds were battling to be born all over the field.
65. Let nature take its course
Jack was tempted to help the birds hatch by running from egg to yolk, but he knew nature would take its course. It was sad that some birds didn’t hatch. But it was the way of things.
He felt his heart melt when he saw the baby.
He was still angry about his chickens and cornfield, but couldn’t resist rooting for the survival of this tiny creature.
