48. Fear of Retribution
Jack was afraid of breaking the eggs. Jack was terrified of retribution, even though it seemed silly. What if the creature that laid these eggs returned to find them broken?
He was frightened to think. He knew that he was being foolish as a farmer. Animals could not get revenge, they didn’t think that way.
Or did they not? Jack had no idea what he’d be dealing with, but he knew it wasn’t a human.
49. Why Do You Think That?
Jack became more paranoid. Who knew what lurked in the woods.
Why do I think that way? Jack pondered. Jack thought.
Jack felt a bit unnerved. Perhaps it was because he was being ungenerous. As he pondered what was at his farm, he began to tell himself spooky stories and myths.
