46. Bonnie Walks Away
Before Jack and Bonnie had a chance to decide, the girls returned with a tarp roll, each girl carrying one side. The girls began unrolling the sheets and placed them over the eggs. Jack followed them behind, and weighed down the corners of the sheets with rocks.
Bonnie stood up and went back inside the house.
Jack and his daughters made the decision, and she lost the argument easily.
47. Checking the Sheets
Jack checked the tarp again after his daughters had placed it. He made sure that the weights held (and were also properly placed).
Why did Jack fear that his plan would fail? He was afraid his wife would be disappointed. It would ruin his daughters’ lives? What if it destroyed his farm?
All those factors were taken into consideration. Jack was outside and inspected the tarps inch by inch to make sure everything was in order.
