40. Bonnie Approaches
The children hurried away, delighted to have something to do. Jack looked at his house, and Bonnie was striding towards him.
Jack was worried by her expression, and he had the feeling that she did not approve of Jack’s plan.
Bonnie: “I was told by the girls what is going on.” “We should call the Sheriff.” We don’t even know what the eggs are. “They could be anything, even something poisonous or dangerous.”
41. It makes sense
Bonnie’s words transported Jack back to the time when his dad was a farmer. Jack, a fifteen-year old boy, was shaken up by his father in the middle of a winter morning.
When Jack followed him into the snowy dawn, he saw red on the snow. Jack had seen red in the snow when he followed his father into the snowy morning.
Jack pondered the words of his wife as he looked up at him.
