32. Dad, No
Giselle repeated, “Dad!” even louder.
Jack realized he wasn’t reacting as a good dad should. He wanted to teach his daughters patience, and an appreciation of life.
Jack’s anger melted and he realized that his attitude had to change. He knew it would be difficult, but he needed to show his daughters that they were capable of handling anything as long as they remained calm.
33. You Win
Jack’s daughters were always stubborn and strong-willed but now they seemed to be motivated by something other than defiance. Jack recalled what happened on that particular day.
All of this was connected: the wails, his chickens, his cornfield, the eggs and the beaten-up cat.
Jack relented as the standoff between him and his daughters continued. “Fine,” said Jack, “You’ve won.”
