Different Goals
Their differing views on parenting and careers was the main cause of contention between them. Dave commuted to and from work, but spent unlimited time with Carey. Dave was not convinced that she should quit her job to devote her entire life to her son.
Malaya was making more money than Dave, and he would have had to work harder if Malaya quit. The smooth running of their home depended on Malaya’s income. The couple couldn’t even agree on the best way to raise Carey.
Different Styles
Malaya, who believed in the importance of structure for children and had brought up the topic of hiring nannies multiple times, was more hands-off and wanted Carey to explore as much as he could.
Carey’s mother was worried about her son and wanted him to be safe. She also feared that Dave, the man who spent most of his time with Carey didn’t give the toddler enough structure. The couple had no idea that their worst fears were about to become reality.
