There Was Something Wrong
He could now hear the sounds more clearly as he concentrated on the dirt below. Dave was unable to see anything below, even when he squinted. Dave thought that someone or something was in grave danger. Dave wondered how he could be the only one in a large crowd to notice it. He felt compelled by this threat to take action.
Dave stated that he tried first to remove the cover of the sewer pipe. It was still. He used all his strength to try again, using a nearby metal pole as a lever. The pipe was rusted to the point that it was impossible to move. Dave looked around. Other people who had watched him from afar now approached him.
