Coming back home
Lauren hugged Stacy tightly as she began to slowly awaken. Ben was able to bring them home when she felt a bit better and was able to wake up. She said to Jamie, “We’ll speak there”. Ben and the balding man helped her to the car and Jamie followed in silence. He was not happy to have to wait any longer for an explanation but tried to hide it from the outside.
He realized it was selfish and that the most important part was Stacy’s well-being. He couldn’t but feel left out. He was so eager to spend the day together, but now he felt like he had been pushed aside. It was something he had looked forward to for weeks and it all disappeared in an instant. It was difficult for him to accept that he had been forgotten. He told himself it was best that Stacy would be safe, and that’s all that matters.
The balding man nodded
Lauren embraced the balding man and whispered in his ear. It was clear that Ben and the man with the beard had spent much time together while Ben was away. The bald man smiled at Jamie and they both looked up. The balding man waited in front of the car while the other passengers got into the vehicle. The car was already ready for him to get in. He inhaled deeply, feeling the cool breeze on his face. He took in the sights, sounds and smells of the city.
The sky was awash with beautiful colors as the sun set. Ben looked through the window to see the sun slowly disappear behind the horizon. He reflected on how fast time passed and how the world can change in a moment. Lauren’s face was still full of worry and sadness when he looked in the rearview. He wanted to do something for her, but knew he couldn’t.
