Drought
The stumps are interesting, but they’re not all that the drained reservoir has to offer. (When full, it’s a great place for watersports). In 2015, the entire lake was drained by a drought, revealing its deepest depths.
During the dry spell, and due to the lack of snowfall, the Cascades lake fell 143 feet below its capacity. Dave Zahn, a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy, saw this as a chance to explore the land past the stumps.

“I went down to the river on a treasure search, thinking I would find foundations,” said Deputy Dave. He walked along the dried up lake bed and grazed the stumps using his fingertips, until he saw a distant object.
The deputy spotted what initially looked like a tree branch between two stumps in a part that had been submerged for more than 70 years. As he got closer to the strange object, he could see it more clearly.
